This page is a bounce-point for various work that I and my colleage Magnus Damm at VA Linux Systems Japan have been doing on kexec. The scope of our work thus far has been:
| Architecture | i386 (x86_32), x86_64 and ia64 |
| Linux | Various kernel cleanups and fixes |
| Xen | Port of kexec to xen for the hypervisor and doman 0 Gerd Hoffmann is working on kexec for domain U separately |
| User-Space | Maintaining the kexec-tools-testing tree |

The kexec-tools was not being actively maintained, and a large
number of patches were accumulating outside the tree. In order
to alleviate this problem I have created the kexec-tools-testing
testing tree. It aims to be a stable tree for moving the
user-space component of kexec forward. This seems to be going very
well. And I hope that it will be renamed to become the kexec-tools
tree in the not to distant future.
If you are a distribution or otherwise considering a version of kexec-tools to use, please consider the kexec-tools-testing tree. It should save you a lot of work in sourcing patches to the older kexec-tools tree. If you have patches that you think should be included in this tree, or any queries about kexec-tools-testing, please send them to the kexec mailing list, and CC me.

Generally speaking, patches that I have for aspects of kexec
are posted to the appropriate mailing lists and (hopefully)
merged.
Where patches are usually sent:
| User-Space and Linux Kernel | kexec |
| Xen on x86_32 and x86_64 | xen-devel. |
| Xen on ia64 | xen-ia64-devel |
|
From time to time, patches will be kept here, typically because they are too green and span too many trees to be conveniently fitted in a (flat) email. As such, there is currently an area for patches that effect the port of kexec to xen on ia64. more...
